First Round Draft Picks

A few months ago, Gabe introduced me to what has become my favorite game to play when I have at least 2 other people around and absolutely nothing to do, aka, every Sunday in Bhuj. Introducing, the Draft.  Before we start, some rules:

The Draft: like a real sports draft, you choose one item and then that item is no longer available to any of the other players.

Choosing Order: We start with one person, go clockwise, and the person at the end gets to choose 2 items before we reverse and go back the opposite direction. When it arrives at the person who started, they too get to choose 2 items.

The Winner: first, we go around the circle and each person gets to give arguments for or against the other people's draft choices. The person on the spot can defend their choices as well. When that is finished, we all write down our votes on a piece of paper simultaneously, then all are tallied up and the winner announced. If the draft is small, winner can be chosen by discussion and mutual acceptance by all players in lieu of tallying up ranks.

A short history of drafts in the last 5 months follows. Pick your winning draft choices as you read and in my comments section write who you think the winners were. Yes this is my lame attempt to see how many people read my blog. I will announce the actual winners with analysis of the decisions on my next blog post.

  1. okay, this is actually TWO comments in one. one from me (adam) and one from Abby. here's our draft picks...

    Round 1:
We both pick Jamie. Basically, the penne and gnocchi were what swayed us here.

    Round 2:
    Adam chose Hannan
Abby chose Andrew. She says that Andrew can come make her breakfast whenever you want!

    Round 3:
Adam chose Andrew. A more regal set of animals, in my opinion.
Abby chose Gabe. Abby says, "DANGERZONE!"

    Round 4:
Adam chose Andrew. Hawaii would be an ideal place to conquer. And, Charlemange is a cool name for a conquerer.
Abby chose Talia. She was impressed with the inclusion of the Holy Roman Empire. Go history nerds.

    Round 5:
Adam chose Toma. Tally skinny villians are cool. Was Hitler tall and skinny? Sure.
Abby chose Lily. You cant get much worse than Satan and Karl Rove. Although, he-who-must-not-be-named brought Talia to a close second.

    Love,
    Abby and Adam

  2. #1
Andrew. Capallini is the deciding factor here. I was gonna go with Jamie except that she picked Linguine and Spaghetti which are basically the same thing and are both PRETTY BORING!

    #2
Gotta go with Gabe. No thank you to cottage cheese, hard or soft boiled eggs, and Hannans combo just sounds disgusting.

    #3
Talia for sure. Great variation among animals plus I would love to see a combination of all those together. Microsoft I'm looking at you. Impossible Creatures 2 anyone?!

    #4
Nothing struck me as particularly strong so I have to go with Andrew. The British Empire choice put me over the edge since the sun never set on that one. Plus its still kinda around today.

    #5
I wanted to go with Andrew because he picked real people and they are truly the most villainous, but I ended up with Toma's. Hitler is an obvious choice, but the kicker comboing him with the Sauron and Jafar. The experience among the three is so huge no man would ever dare get in their way. They each ruled over completely different environments and three completely different eras in time. You also have the fact that Hitler knows how to control people, while Sauron has a deep background with orcs and Jafar has total control over talking parrots. I think that is a trifecta not worth reckoning with.
